If a portion of your skin is greater than a centimeter in width, it is referred to as a patch; if a macule, it is smaller than a centimeter in width. Your hair may turn silver or white if you have vitiligo on a hairy area of your body. Melanocytes are destroyed by your body's immune system, which results in the disorder. Skin cells called melanocytes are responsible for producing melanin, the pigmentation that gives skin its color.
